Anchor Backgammon is a backgammon app, not a data business. This page describes exactly what it collects and why.

The short version

Who is responsible

Altridex LLC, 418 Broadway Ste N, Albany, NY 12207, United States, is the controller of personal data described here. Contact owner@altridexllc.com.

What the app collects

An anonymous account identifier

When the app first runs it creates an anonymous account with Google Firebase Authentication. This produces a random identifier that is not linked to your name, email address or phone number. It exists so your settings and progress can be restored if you reinstall the app or use a second device.

Settings and progress

If cloud sync is active, the app stores a small set of values against that identifier: your preferences, which board designs you own, and your coaching and practice progress. This is stored in Google Cloud Firestore. It does not include your name or contact details.

An optional sign-in

You may choose to link Game Center on Apple devices or Google Play Games on Android, or to sign in with Apple, Google, Microsoft or an email address, so your progress follows you across devices. If you do, we receive the identifier that service issues for you, and the email address and display name it shares, where it shares them. Signing in is optional and the app works fully without it.

Your player name

Every player starts with a made-up name, such as CraftyOwl12. After enough games you may choose your own. A chosen name is stored against your account identifier and checked before other players can see it: first by a model running on our server, and, when that model is unsure, by Anthropic's Claude, which receives the name alone, with nothing that identifies you. A name that is refused is never shown to anyone else.

Online matches

If you play an online match, the moves, dice rolls and match score are relayed between you and your opponent so that both devices show the same game. Your opponent sees your player name. If you invite a friend, the invitation link carries a short room code and nothing else. If you never play online, none of this applies.

Purchases

Board designs and other in-app purchases are processed by Apple or Google, not by us. We never see your card details or billing address. We receive only confirmation that a purchase is valid, so the app can unlock what you bought.

Crash reports

If the app crashes, it sends a crash report through Google Firebase Crashlytics: the place in the code where it failed, the app and operating system versions, the device model, and a random identifier for this installation. Crash reports are not linked to your account, your name or your games, and we use them only to fix the app.

Downloads and app integrity

Some board designs download when you first choose them, from our storage at Cloudflare, whose servers see your IP address as part of delivering the file. To keep strangers' scripts away from your account and online matches, the app on Apple devices asks Apple (App Attest) to confirm that requests come from a genuine copy of the app. Neither step tells us who you are.

What the app does not collect

No advertising identifiers, no location data, no contacts, no photos, no microphone or camera access, and no analytics. The app contains no advertising SDK. We do not track you across other apps or websites.

Why we are allowed to hold it

Where the UK GDPR or EU GDPR applies, we rely on legitimate interests to run the game and keep your progress intact across devices, and on the necessity of processing to perform the agreement between us when you play an online match or make a purchase. Where we ask for consent, you can withdraw it at any time.

Who else processes it

Google (Firebase Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Cloud Functions and Crashlytics) stores the account identifier, the synced values, your player name and crash reports on our behalf. Anthropic checks chosen player names, as described above, and does not use them to train its models. Cloudflare delivers board downloads. Apple, Google and Microsoft process purchases and, where you use them, your sign-in. We use no other processors.

How long it is kept

Synced data and your player name are kept while your account exists. Delete them at any time in the app (Stats, then Account, then Delete account), which removes the account, its synced data and its name, or by writing to us, and we will confirm when it is done. Crash reports are kept for 90 days. A finished online match keeps its moves and the two players' identifiers, because it is your opponent's record too.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access a copy of your data, to correct it, to delete it, to restrict or object to how it is used, and to receive it in a portable form. Residents of California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia and other US states with comparable laws have similar rights, including the right not to be discriminated against for exercising them. We do not sell personal information and never have.

To exercise any of these, email owner@altridexllc.com. We will respond within 30 days.

Children

Anchor Backgammon is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. The app can be played with no account at all, which collects no personal information. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, write to us and we will delete it.

International transfers

We are based in the United States and our processors store data in the United States. If you use the app from outside the US, your data is transferred there. Where required, we rely on the European Commission's standard contractual clauses, which our processors have adopted.

Changes

If this policy changes materially we will update the date above and, where the change affects how your data is used, tell you inside the app.
